A total of six projectors fitted at equidistant points on a circular truss, each with a light output of 12,000 ANSI lumens and WUXGA resolution, provided a visual tour de force. The new Epson EB-L1505U models which were used are fitted with a laser light source and 3LCD technology and generate virtually no running noise. The laser phosphor light source manages without the comparatively high UV component of UHP lamps, and the annoying colour distortions which used to appear after about 1500 operating hours are nowhere in sight with the new Epson models, therefore allowing continuous operation without any problems – as was the case at photokina. The newly developed inorganic phosphor wheel is efficient and robust (resistant to light and heat) while the contrast ratio is entirely comparable with DLP technology. The image reproduction is free of colour break-up effects. The mountings and fixings designed for use with the projectors enable flexible positioning, so it was possible to align the EB-L1505U projectors in Cologne exactly as required. No special lenses were used as the pictures were rectified digitally on the computer without adversely affecting the perceived quality of the moving images.
